SAP are continuing to evolve SAP Solution Manager 7.2 with the latest support package stack SP10 being released in December 2019. Focusing on the delivery of Customer Innovation requests, it brings several new and enhanced features across a broad spectrum of the functional scope (with the most significant changes, in our opinion, being delivered in the field of Business Process Analysis & Improvement)
A brief summary of the changes from this latest release is described under each topic area below:
The look and feel of Business Process Analytics has been radically transformed with the new state-of-the-art UI5 design, which introduces a range of innovative and improved visual and functional features, for a more contemporary and enhanced user experience:
New and improved flexibility and toggling between the various analytical functions
- Data can be analysed from Infocube or by real-time adhoc interrogation of the managed system
- Improved Age Analysis function now provides weekly, as well as monthly and annual granularity of backlog data for identifying document cleansing opportunities
- Detail List report now displayed in Solution Manager with direct drilldown into documents themselves within the managed system
- Improved filtering options allow for greater flexibility in targeting relevant data
- Document count and document value figures now presented in a single view
- Process improvement progress now visualised and tracked via milestone-based process flows
Smaller, but welcome additions to the overall functionally mature Change Management tools:
Cloud TMS integration. Definitely one of the more useful enhancements of SP10, Cloud based system change control (via SAP Transports) is now possible with Solution Manager via the QGM or ChaRM toolsets
- Improved performance of CSOL and DGP checks. Often a time-consuming, but critical activity during a cutover or major change release is the downgrade protection check. SAP have now provided more flexibility around this functionality, allowing it to be switched off for SAP Roles and Customizing objects thus providing an option to speed up import times (albeit at a greater risk!)Automatic update the transport description when assigning to a new Change Document. A simple, but very welcome change; no longer will auditors still get confused surrounding the history of a Transport that has been reassigned between ChaRM changes
- Return codes of imports now visible in ChaRM, this will lead to easier/faster diagnosis of import issues, helping the application team (rather than just the Basis team) identify transport failures as they happen
- Import Time for the Transports of a request. Users will now be able to see the scheduled import time directly in the Change Documents, thus helping to manage expectations of delivery to the test systems
- Test Classification attribute now available in the test case hierarchy, making creating a test plan quicker and easier
- You can now export Test packages/sequences into Excel, making it easier to share data outside of SolMan
- Test Case priorities are now visible to the testers in the Tester Worklist helping them to manage their worklist appropriately
- Test Case executables are now visible to the Testers in their Worklist, this will help the testers understand which transaction the test case is referring to
- Test Notes/Results can now be made mandatory, meaning a status can only be set if appropriate documentation has been uploaded
- You can now copy Test Packages/Sequences to other Test Plans, helping with repeat test cycle planning
- Mass update of Test Plan status, it’s now possible to change the status of Test Plans without having to go into each one individually
- You can now monitor jobs without having to setup an alert, this means you can check their status in dashboards without having alerts setup
- You can now filter the Job Monitoring Dashboard by system and object names
Of course, there are many other changes under the skin of Solution Manager SP10 than we can go into here, including minor, but welcome additions to Application Operations, SolMan Configuration and Data Consistency Management.
Don’t forget that to maintain access to SAP’s Support Backbone (required for the continued operation of key functions such as the Maintenance Planner – amongst others) you will need to upgrade to at least SP07 and ideally SP10 before the end 2019, so now is the time to take action! Get in contact with us below to find out how we can make sure you get the most out of the latest enhancements in the fastest possible time.
